I’ve finally finished writing the 2nd edition for Shopping for Shares. I’ll be sending it to the publisher on Monday. I just want to keep it over the weekend so that I can have one last look at it before I send it off to make sure that I’ve included everything that I wanted to include.
Some of my favourite bits are the tips I’ve included for Lazy Girls. They offer some really good quick suggestions for investing in the stock market if you don’t have a lot of time – and who does these days? Now that I’ve got two small children running around – I just don’t have the same time to find great companies that I used to – so I figured that many of you would be in the same boat.
One thing I am contemplating right now is whether to change the subtitle. Right now it’s ‘The Everyday Woman’s Guide to Investing in the Australian Stock Market’. Which is fine, and conveys the idea that any women can use these strategies to invest, but I’m wondering if I should change it to something stronger. Hmmm .. Any suggestions?
I’m also considering changing it because this edition will also have electronic versions of it for the Kindle and other ebook readers and it helps to have some really good keywords in the title or subtitle so that people can find it easily.
I’m really excited that this edition is going to be available as an ebook as well as a printed copy. Since I got my Kindle I’ve been reading so many books on it – I can’t wait until my book will be available in that format as well.
Well I’m going now to feed the kids and get them off to bed so I can relax by watching The Biggest Loser. Bye for now.

Hi Tracey,
After a Google search about women and share investing in Australia I very thankfully came across you! I am a twenty-one year old recent graduate from UQ and while working casually and trying to find full time employment I would like to start investing in shares. I have no knowledge whatsoever about this so am very eager to get my hands on your book. Should I wait for your new edition (when do you think it will be published?) or should I read your original first and then check out the new one when it’s ready?
Thanks so much and keep up your great contribution to encouraging womens’ financial independence!

Hi Kate,
Thanks for visiting my site! I went to UQ too – I studied Arts Journalism there, well quite a few years ago now. It’s a great uni. The 2nd edition is due to be released in September. I’ve still got a few copies of the original book here at home though, let me send you an email to get your mailing address and I’ll send you a copy if you like.
Take care,
Tracey
Hi Tracey, I recently purchased your first publication . I found it very user friendly and communicated in such a manner that it seems most plausible that a rank beginner like myself could realistically pursue a stock market investment interest. My enthusiasm has kindled my sisters interest as well, she went to buy a copy of Shopping for Shares this week. Unfortunately A & R didn’t have stock on their shelves but this is how we learned about the second edition so the trip wasn’t wasted! I have an existing small portfolio of ‘mums and dads shares/Telstra/Tabcorp/IAG which I have basically taken very little notice of but would like to use this portfolio as a means of trading. May I ask, would I be sensible to amalgamate all the holdings into one security house (if this is the right terminology)? Like move all these shares over to CHESS, for instance? Thanks for any assistance you are able to give but also for being generous in sharing your monthly tips and the website, I for one will be a regular visitor.
Hi Michele,
Thanks so much for buying my book! So glad you and your sister liked it.
To answer your question, it’s really up to you if you want to combine them all to CHESS or not. Sometimes it can make it easier for trading with but it’s not necessary.
If you do decide to then most online brokers will have a form called “Convert Your Issuer Sponsored Holdings to CHESS Partipant Sponsored Holdings” << that's what Commsec calls theirs it might be called something different at other brokers though. I hope you do really well with your investments! Telstra is doing pretty good right now. Take care Tracey 🙂
